Uganda Bodybuilding and Fitness Association on Monday launched the 2021 Mr. Uganda Bodybuilding competitions slated for 20th November at Horse Power Fitness Center in Muyenga 200m along Tank Hill road.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the association forewent the different qualification events for this championship save for Mr. Kampala open event in May this year which served as a qualification pathway to this national competition.
Over 50 participants (both men and women) have registered to feature in the different stages of the championship such as bodybuilding, physic and fitness competitions.
Karungi Ibra, the association vice-president says the “major emphasis is to try create a gap whereby we don’t let our athletes relax, we drop them to another competition. We are trying to promote the sport in that different clubs at different regions bring their cream to inter cities and inter region competitions since we are to have regional Championships.”
STS Gym’s Welterweight Bodybuilder Godfrey Lubega relays his hope to triumph in this edition on the absence of 2018 and 2019 champion Isaac Mubikirwa who sought for greener pastures across boarders.
Despite his failure to shrug off competition from Daniel Mwesigwa during the Mr. Kampala finals at Qibs Gym – Kikaaya earlier in May, the muscleman is nothing but optimistic about victory.
“I have worked tirelessly for this competition and I believe I’m the pre face favourite. I want to send strong warnings to all my potential competitors that I have worked on my areas of weaknesses.”
Lubega, a 2019 runner-up in Masaka will, however, need to beat the stiff competition from Kisekka Aksam, Yokariitwa John Ronax among the other many potential opponents.

The top three from each of the six weight categories in the Bantamweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight, Lightheavy and Heavyweight will take home gold, silver and bronze medals accompanied by prize money.
Besides Horse Power Fitness Center that has provided venue for the competition, Subhan Auto Selection (U) LTD, Power Body Fit and University of Pain have all partnered to bolster this event that will see all bodybuilders walk away with certificates of participants.
