Two Brahmapur body builders, Chandan Kumar Sahu and Arjun Sahu, bagged gold medals in the 12th edition of the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship organised by Uzbekistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation at Tashkent from October 1 to 7.
While Chandan participated in 60-kg category, Arjun participated in 50-kg and both brought glory to Brahmapur.
Only two athletes from Odisha, Chandan Sahu and Subham Mishra, had been nominated to participate in this world championship and Arjun was selected from another State as he is working as an ASI in the Indian Army stationed at Jabalpur.
Chandan beat competitors from 60 countries to win the gold medal in 60-kg category. A resident of Old Brahmapur, he is currently pursuing BBA and his father runs a tea stall in the city for their livelihood.
His coach S Rajesh Babu Achary said Chandan undertook rigorous training in his gym for eight months. “Chandan had taken loans to go to the competition after he was selected for this prestigious international event. The gold medal is a reward for his rigorous and dedicated efforts,” said Achary.
