A man with a knife was shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers, police said Saturday.
Around 11 a.m., a 19-year-old woman with a stab wound approached two officers near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, LAPD Media Relations said in a statement on Twitter.
She directed the officers to a man in his 30s with a knife, according to the LAPD.
He ignored the officers when they commanded him to drop the knife, and “advanced towards the officers,” the LAPD said, at which point “several beanbag rounds were deployed and [an] officer involved shooting occurred.”
“It was probably about six or seven shots and then the guy was still up for a little while and then we saw him get down on the ground,” Frank Dickerson, who is visiting from Arizona, said. “It had your adrenaline going. It was quite the scene to see there.”
The man was hit by gunfire and transported to the hospital for treatment of a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound,” according to the LAPD. The knife was recovered from the scene of the shooting and booked as evidence.
The woman who was stabbed was also taken to the hospital for treatment, and is in stable condition.
No officers or pedestrians were hurt in the incident.
Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue will be closed for “several hours,” the LAPD said around 3 p.m. on Saturday. Traffic will be directed to Sunset Boulevard to the south and Franklin Avenue to the north.
